The Regional Leadership Team is pleased to announce the recipients of the Curtis Smout Scholarship for the Regional Recreation Tournament and the Boston International Conference.

Sean Kuriyan from Arizona State University (ASU) received this year’s Curtis Smout Scholarship to attend the Recreation Tournament, February 11 & 12, in Colorado Springs. Sean is the President of the Sun Devil Billiards Team, Vice President Elect of Human Relations for the American Marketing Association, Vice President of Finance for the Maroon & Gold Ambassadors and mentor for the Obama Scholars Program. In his letter of recommendation Jeff Rensel, Assistant Director of the Memorial Union, wrote, “He successfully serves as positive role model and mentor for others in his role as President of the Sun Devil Billiards Team organization. He is a hard worker and a team player”.

Katherin Torres, also from ASU, has been awarded the Smout Scholarship to attend the upcoming ACUI International Conference, March 18 – 22, in Boston, MA. Katherin attended the Region 13 Fall Conference in 2009 and 2011 and was a presenter at the 2011 conference. She is a Building Manager at the Memorial Union (since 2009). “I cannot emphasize how vital her role has been as student leader and co-worker”, wrote Lane Honda, ASU Memorial Union Coordinator, Operations. “Her insistence on bettering the Building Manager program has resulted in numerous changes”.
